About This Training
Spring 2025 Doula Training Program
The practice of birthwork has long been sacred, passed down through generations as a form of ancestral knowledge, care, and resistance. Yet, in many parts of the world, birthwork has been stripped of its cultural, spiritual, and communal roots—medicalized, commercialized, and constrained by policies that fail to honor the holistic and sovereign experience of birthing people. This training was designed with the understanding that cultural and spiritual birthwork is a revolutionary act—one that is integral to reproductive justice, healing, and liberation.
Womb Wisdom: A Sacred Birthkeeper Training is a 7-week immersive program led by the Leader Circle of Sanctuary for Integrative Medicine, under the guidance of Sevonna Brown. This program is one of the few trainings centering Black, Indigenous, and ancestral midwifery and birth traditions, offering a holistic, trauma-informed, and spiritually grounded approach to birthwork.
This live, interactive training provides a communal learning experience grounded in ritual, embodied practice, and deep ancestral knowledge. Participants will explore the sacred dimensions of pregnancy, birth, postpartum care, reproductive justice, and womb sovereignty while developing the skills to hold space for birthing people with reverence, power, and care.
Through a rigorous and intentional study of birth as ceremony, reproductive autonomy, and the intersections of race, gender, and spirituality in birthwork, this program reclaims birth as a site of transformation, connection, and resistance.
